The Green Howards History

The story of Bill's regiment

(Under 2 minutes)

The Dunkirk evacuation, codenamed Operation Dynamo by the British, was the evacuation of Allied soldiers from the beaches and harbour of Dunkirk between May 26 and June 4 1940, when British, French and Canadian troops were cut off by the German army during the Battle of Dunkirk in the Second World War. (3 minutes)

D-Day - The invasion of Normandy on June 6th, 1944.  (3 minutes).

Also note that the movie, The Longest Day, provides a very passable impression of the D-Day beach landings, authentic to Bill's war story. Of course, Saving Private Ryan is the modern epic which really shows what it was like.
