The Green Howards History (Under 2 minutes)
The Dunkirk evacuation, codenamed Operation Dynamo by the British, was the evacuation of Allied soldiers from the beaches and harbour of Dunkirk between May 26 and June 4 1940, when British, French and Canadian troops were cut off by the German army during the Battle of Dunkirk in the Second World War. (8 minutes)
The invasion of Normandy on June 6th, 1944. (3 minutes).
Note that the movie, The Longest Day, provides a very passable impression of the D-Day beach landings.
Plus: Click below to see some superb film shot by Sergeant Bill Grant of the Canadian Army Film and Photo Unit (CAFPU). Lasting only two minutes and 10 seconds, the clip shows Canadian infantry disembarking from an assault craft at Bernières-sur-Mer on June 6, 1944.
